A shocking history of environmental vandalism by the involved Indian Company in Africa and other places is being disregarded.
The majority of Australians are asking themselves, “Why?” The State’s Premier responded that it would result in the creation of jobs. The mine presents numerous challenges because a port has been constructed over the reef so that big ships can load coal from it, and any kind of accident runs the risk of further harm to the reef.
Such a mishap might involve a ship slamming into a coral outcrop and spewing coal or oil over the region. Due to the Exxon Valdez’s accident in Prince William Sound, Alaska, in March 1989, the effects of such an environmental catastrophe are still being felt. Media coverage revealed the extent of the spill’s harm to Bligh Reef and the nearby shores, not to mention the damage it did to the local bird and marine life.
It has been reported that the Company does not pay taxes in India and that its money is held in an offshore bank for tax evasion purposes, which adds to concerns about the Company developing the coal mine.
